How to assemble an XB silo

Mafa manufactures and sells XB silos that are between 86 and 189 m³. These cannot be transported fully assembled to the site due to their diameter (4.69 m). It is therefore assembled on site. A minimum of 2 people are required to assemble the silo, of which 1 person is a crane truck driver.

We cannot install silos in cold weather due to our sealant and we also avoid wind, as the silo can rock and injure personnel or surroundings.

The first thing our installers do is build the roof. In the ceiling there are then fasteners that are hooked into the crane.  On the roof, a gangway to another silo or platform can be installed. Many times ladders are also ordered.

Then the top ring is built. Our silos are screwed together with sealant in between. The screws are special screws with a smooth inside, which enables the material in the silo to be emptied smoothly and evenly without sticking to screw heads.

Once the roof accessories are installed, the crane operator begins to lift the silo. Then the fitter and crane operator work and attach sheet metal after sheet metal and form rings. For each new lap, the silo is raised and a new ring can be built.

When all the silo’s rings are assembled, the legs and finally the cone at the bottom are mounted.  Then the screw box and the remaining accessories such as transport screws and electrical control are mounted to the min/max sensor.
